The master thesis "The Fall of Ferdinand Marcos and the Transition to Democracy in the Philippines" deals with the analysis of politico-historical development of the Philippines and the aim is describe the fall of nondemocratic regime and the subseguent transition do democracy. The attention is paid to the role and tactics of opposition groups among which leadership stakes took place during democratic consolidation. To be place into the context the master thesis deals as well with historical development of political system and its practise.

Analysis of the behaviour of selected states in the South China Sea

The South China Sea has been already for several centuries the root of a dispute among states neighbouring along its borders, namely the People's Republic of China (China), Vietnam, the Philippines, Indonesia, Brunei, and Malaysia. Since the Sea is very geopolitically and geostrategically important, China attempts to claim itself to be a sovereign. However, its activities face the demands of other states, especially Vietnam and the Philippines, which are also interested in gaining control over the islands in the South China Sea. For that reason, the dispute still persists, and the continuous activities of all concerned countries have created an endless spiral of events in which it is difficult to distinguish between the action and the reaction of individual actors in the dispute. My diploma thesis therefore focuses on the analysis of actions of the three selected countries, China, Vietnam, and the Philippines, from the perspective of structural realism that is split into two contradictory streams, defensive and offensive. Their different views on the world help me to clarify whether the behaviour of the chosen actors is defensive of offensive. For the analysis, the period from 2011 to 2018 was chosen. Electoral Authoritarianism in Comparative Perspective of Southeast Asia

In the thesis "Electoral Authoritarianism in Comparative Perspective of Southeast Asia", while analyzing for cases of regime survival and fall, author develops the argument that certain subtypes of authoritarian regimes are better build to cope with change than others. Since the four cases are under new institutionalism generally classified as electoral authoritarianism, the text depicts some of the methodological problems related to this particular research perspective. Building on the systems approach and new institutionalism, the thesis analyzes the relation between institutional character of regime elite and its ability to cope with changes in the environment, i.e. adaptability. Author shows that at the time of crisis, personalistic regimes tend to react almost solely with repression a restrictions, whereas regimes with ruling parties exhibit a substantial degree of personal and policy flexibility, which positively informs their chances for survival. The conclusion also demonstrates the methodological weaknesses of regime typology based on the quality of electoral process. It diverts the attention from other features of regimes which significantly inform logic and inner dynamics of authoritarianism. Title: Using Carrots to Bring Peace? Negotiation and Third Party Involvement Author: Martina Klimesova 284 p. (+references and appendices) March 2011 How to make peace? This dissertation answers what impact third party incentives have on peace negotiation, more specifically on negotiation strategies in internal armed conflicts based on self-determination grievances. This study further assesses when the ripest time for the employment of incentives is, and in what way external incentives have an impact on possible negotiation asymmetries. Incentives in the following negotiation processes were analyzed: GoSL-LTTE in Sri Lanka (Eelam, 2002-03; 2006), GoI-GAM in Indonesia (Aceh, 2000-03; 2005), and the GRP-MILF in the Philippines (Mindanao, 2001-08). The findings indicate that those third party incentives which are linked to the core conflict issues are most likely to have some impact on the negotiation, but that committed pro-process leadership by the conflicting parties is also a necessity. The research also indicated that third parties have only limited options in employing incentives that can have an impact on the core conflict issues; and that, in any case, they are rarely willing to pursue such options. Business customs and cultural specifics of the Philippines

This bachelor thesis provides information about the Philippines. There is mentioned general characteristic, as well as general characteristics of the cultural practices and their reflection in a business meeting. The thesis collects information for successful business partner and it also contains Czech-Philippine trade and diplomatic relations. The thesis is based on the foreign-language literature. The information was gained from communication with representatives of the Embassy of the Philippines and representatives of the Czech private sector. Information about culture, among other things came from personal experience.

Business and Cultural Habits of the Philippines

The main aim of this thesis is an analysis of cultural specifics and aspects of business negotiations in the Philippines. The introductory part of the thesis covers up information that is crucial for understanding of the historical, economic, demographic and cultural development of the country. Following chapter focuses on distinctive features of local culture and includes recommendations for travellers coming to the Philippines. The consequent part of the thesis deals with characteristics of business negotiation and etiquette. This part is mainly a result of the research among the Czech sales representatives who do business in this country. The final chapter summarizes the history and development of Czech-Philippine business and diplomatic relations.
